Machairas Monastery – Cyprus

A beautiful monastery, well worth a visit on the way.

Machairas Monastery is one of the most famous monasteries in Cyprus. Located on the slopes of Kionia at an altitude of 870 meters above sea level, it is nestled in the Valley of the Machiras Mountains. Therein lies the miraculous icon of Phenagia (the Virgin Mary) from Machiras attributed to the evangelist Agios Lucas (the apostle Locus).
