In light of the worldwide outbreak of the corona virus (Covid-19), Nautor’s Swan and Turku Yacht Club met to decide on the next steps for the European Swan Regatta, scheduled for July 7-13.
Turku Yacht Club represents the home ground of Swan owners who have hosted three previous Swan sailing competitions. In 2006 on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Turku Yacht Club, in 2012 and again in 2016 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Nautor’s Swan. With an impressive attendance of more than 100 yachts in the event, with 31 yachts already registered.
With a heavy heart, Nautor’s Swan and Turku Yacht Club have jointly decided to postpone the event to the summer of 2021.
“It was not an easy decision to make, but right now we feel it is the right thing to do,” says Giovanni Fumetti, CEO of Nautor Holdings. That we all waited for him. “Unfortunately, given the current situation and the uncertainty in the world, the general mood and our goal not to endanger the health and safety of our guests, have led us to this important decision.”
“The state of the corona virus in Finland is still under control, I hope it will not change in the near future” says Smoly Salantra, Commodore of the Turku Yacht Club. “Turku has always been the home of the Swans in the Baltic Sea and we feel the need to host the cruise in the best conditions, and this is not the right time. We will surely celebrate the Swan spirit properly next year.”
