In the afternoon we reached Lake Atitlan, we will spend the night at the hotel up to the lake shore.
Lake Atitlán (Spanish: Lago de Atitlán) is located in the mountainous region of southwestern Guatemala in the province of Solola, 1,562 meters above sea level and 147 km from the city of Guatemala.
It is located in the heart of an ancient volcanic crater and is a closed lake, a dead end to the sea.
Lake Atitlan is considered the deepest lake in Central America – an estimated depth of 340 meters, a width of 10 km and a length of 18 km. The lake is surrounded by steep slopes and south of it are three volcanoes – Atitlan, San Pedro and Tuliman.
The lake is surrounded by several villages, inhabited by several tribes, all descendants of the Maya. The village of Santiago Atitlan (Santiago Atitlan) is the largest of the villages surrounding the lake. Other villages are: Solola, Panajachel, San Pedro La Laguna, San Marcos La Laguna (San Marcos La Laguna), San Lucas Toliman (San Lucas Toliman)
The lake is considered one of the most beautiful lakes in the world and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Guatemala.
