This morning on our way to Lake Atitlan we passed through the town of Chichicastenango (Spanish: Chichicastenango) is a town in the province of El Quiche in Guatemala, known for the indigenous Mayan culture that has been partly preserved in the place. Chichikstango is located on a mountain range 1,965 meters above sea level, and is located about 140 km northwest of the capital Guatemala. Chichikstango is famous for the colorful market that takes place in the town on Sundays and Thursdays, and is considered one of the largest in Central America. The market reaches merchants from all over the region who display their diverse containers: fabrics, various handicrafts, pottery, wood carvings, leather goods, herbs and candles and including animals, vegetables, machetes and other utensils. The city and the alleys around the main square, where you can also find stalls offering food to shoppers in the market.
